Figurative Gallery
New Paintings and Drawerings by Chris Chappell
Check out Pictures from the show at my FLICKR
Page.
Thanks guys! So stop by and look at art....
David O wrote a cool announcement about my show:
"Chris Chappell is the co-founder of
the Austin Figurative Project and Gallery. He was with the legendary
ArtHive back in the day. His paintings are wonderfully careless.
I'm constantly motivated to be a better painter by looking at his
work. He finds possibilities with paint where there really should
be none. He's also a stunt sketcher. When he's stopped at a red
light he whips out his sketchbook and draws the intersection. Sometimes
he even makes paintings from those lightning-fast short-hand drawerings.
And those paintings will make you cry little tears. Soy tears.
His wonderful daughter has an unusual relationship with snails and
starfish."-David O
Thanks David!
Also in October 2007 there are lots of birthdays...my son turns
3! Happy Birthday Finn! And my mom turns old, and my sister turns
23 or so. Plus my simpleton cousin Erica turns 35, Liz's dad would
have had a birthday, and Barbara Whitehead.

My Painting for the Women
and Thier Work "Red Hot Red Dot" Show |
September 2006
It's been a busy couple of months...
I've been working on a figure painting project with
David O, a landscape painting project, and a few murals.
Check out new murals here. |

July
2006
I was lucky enough to get
to work on the movie A Scanner Darkly.
Directed by Richard Linklater,
it comes out in March of 2006 and stars Keanu Reeves, Woody
Harrelson, Robert Downey Jr., Winona Ryder, and many more.
But who cares about famous movie stars? The really cool thing about
this film is that it is being animated by awesome Austin animators
like Bob Sabiston,
Nathan Jensen, Paul
Beck, .....and tons of others. Many of them I don't know and
didn't get to meet in my one short month there.
I worked exclusively on background
art under the wing of super talented artist Greg
Geisler. |
Feb
2006
I made several murals
for Austin's GREEN GATES Project.
They are 5 by 6 feet and will be displayed
on gates at the Whole Foods Market downtown.
The Green Gates project is "a citywide
environmental arts celebration." Visit Austin
Green Art for more information about the project and how you
can make a gate or banner.
Incidentally, Earth day is on April 22- which
happens to be one day before Michael Schliefke's Birthday. Michael's
birthday happens to fall on the same day as Shakespeare's AND Secretary's
Day. Email him to
wish him a happy birthday, he would hate that. |
Dec
2005
The Blue Genie ARt BAZAAR
was a success as it is each year. I was a participating artist again
and I showed several new works.

I completed a mural for Desire
Boutique in Austin,Tx. The mural is a graphical representation
of bamboo in two
"treatment rooms", one blue and one green. People will
go here for facials, massage, and for relaxing.

I made some crazy Halloween
"photo opportunities"
for the kids... |
Sept
2005
I was
one of dozens of animators on a project Bob Sabiston did for the
Austin City Limits Festival. It turned out to be over three hours
of animation made with an animation software Bob himself created.
A different software Bob created. Not ColorEngine. Check
out the intro page of Flat
Black Film's web site to see an example of animation made with
it. |
